This lot comprises a graduated trio of trumpet-shaped bud vases or posy holders, crafted from sterling silver. The bases bear clear English hallmarks, including a maker’s mark ‘S&M’, an anchor with 2 ‘c’s above each hook of the anchor indicating the Birmingham assay office, a lion passant for sterling standard, and a date letter ‘Y’ within a shaped shield, corresponding to the year 1973. Special mark used to commemorate
the bicentenary of the Assay Office. The items feature a classic form with textured detailing around the necks of the flared rims, possibly executed in repoussé. The undersides of the bases are covered with black felt.
