A Japanese Satsuma Gizan vase, Meiji Period. This fine earthenware or porcelain vase features a bulbous body, narrow neck, flared rim, and two gilded handles. It is extensively decorated with polychrome enamels and gilding over a visible crackle glaze. The main body displays framed panels with detailed figural scenes of men, women, and children in traditional attire, set within landscape vignettes. Some male figures are depicted with halos. These scenes are interspersed with intricate patterns of fans, clouds, and geometric motifs. The neck, shoulder, and rim are also richly gilded. The base bears a black vertical mark reading “薩摩 義山” (Satsuma Gizan). 12cm
